This recipe takes every shortcut to create a delicious homemade pizza and I’m not mad about it! I love making homemade pizzas on naan since there’s no sticky dough or mess to deal with as you simply add your desired ingredients, bake for 12 minutes, and ta-da! Super cozy and super quick comfort food.

All the measurements for this recipe can be estimated and will probably need to be adjusted based on your preference and also the size of your naans that you choose to use. So feel free to go to town on whatever your favorite components are!

Ingredients

  • Naan bread: Any plain naan bread works for this recipe, so use whichever kind you can find at your local grocery store. They do vary in size depending on the brand, so that will dictate the amount of the other ingredients needed.
  • BBQ sauce: I love using Sweet Baby Ray’s or homemade BBQ sauce, but any brand you enjoy will work. For the chicken, add just enough spoonfuls of sauce to lightly coat the chicken. We don’t want the chicken to be dripping with sauce. For the naan, I spread the same amount of BBQ sauce over the top as you would pizza sauce.
  • Chicken: I usually grill a few boneless chicken thighs that are seasoned with salt and pepper, then chop them up into small pieces. An even easier trick is to use a rotisserie chicken from the store and shred it into small pieces.
  • Cheese: Shredded mozzarella is the main cheese used for the pizza. I like adding freshly grated Parmesan cheese for extra depth of flavor, but it’s not required!
  • Shallots: Shallots add a sweet crunch to the pizza, but red onion would work here as well.
  • Green onion: I love the freshness and brightness that green onions add to these flatbreads.
  • Cilantro: If you don’t like cilantro, omit it! But if you do like cilantro, this is a must-have. It adds so much flavor to the end product.
  • Finishes: Sprinkle on any extra Parmesan cheese you have! For the sea salt, it has to be sea salt flakes, otherwise do not add it. Using fine sea salt will make everything way too salty! Freshly ground black pepper is always a must. And lastly, a squeeze of fresh lime juice as you’re eating each slice really takes it to the next level.

I tend to pile on the ingredients like the photo below, as the toppings really melt flatten down once baked!

Once baked, add all the finishing touches and a delicious meal awaits!

Ingredients
4 small or 2 large plain naan flatbreads
¼ cup + 2 tbsp BBQ sauce, divided
1 cup finely shredded mozzarella cheese
2 tbsp freshly grated Parmesan cheese
1 large or 2 medium shallots, thinly sliced
 1 stalk green onion, sliced
2 cups cooked chicken, shredded or chopped
1 handful of cilantro leaves, chopped
 2 lime wedges (optional)
sea salt flakes and freshly ground black pepper

Directions
1

Preheat oven to 375°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and lay the naan flatbreads on top in a single layer.

2

In a separate bowl, mix 2 tbsp of BBQ sauce with the shredded or diced up chicken and set aside.

3

Evenly divide and spread 1/4 cup of BBQ sauce onto the naan flatbreads, leaving a 1/2 inch border around the edges.

Adjust the amount of BBQ sauce based on the size of the naan flatbreads used.

4

Then, top with shredded mozzarella cheese, a few sprinkles of freshly grated Parmesan cheese, thinly sliced shallots, chicken and BBQ sauce mixture, and green onions.

5

Bake for ~11-12 minutes until cheese has all melted and the edges of the naan flatbread are a golden brown. Don't let the edges turn dark brown!

6

Remove the flatbreads from the oven and top with cilantro, freshly grated Parmesan cheese, sea salt flakes (must be flakey, otherwise omit it. Don't use fine sea salt!), and freshly ground black pepper.

Serve with fresh lime wedges and squeeze over top right before eating.
